Biogas composition from agricultural sources and organic fraction of municipal solid waste

This paper presents an overview of biogas compositions originating from agriculture and the organic fraction municipal solid waste. An intensive data compilation was performed literature, plant EU project (Waste2Watts) sampling campaigns at 5 different anaerobic digesters in Switzerland. Besides reporting major components i.e. methane carbon dioxide, concentration minor such as nitrogen oxygen, well trace amounts sulfur compounds (H2S, mercaptans, sulfides, etc.), silicon (siloxanes, silanes), ammonia, halogenated compounds, other volatile (VOCs) are reported. These can present a significant challenge to energetic use biogas, specifically novel, high-efficient processes high temperature fuel cells or catalytic upgrading units. H2S concern, they abundantly found biogas; unlike which generally exist low undetectable levels.
